BABY BECKHAM FINALLY HOME IN INDIANA
Situation highlights how congressional offices can fight on your behalf
Jeffersonville, IN — Yesterday evening, a nightmare situation for a Morgan County family came to an end when Beckham Lake Ralph made it to Riley Hospital for Children from Cancun, Mexico where he had been born just two days prior. What started as an opportunity for an expectant mother and her husband to spend some time together before the birth of their son turned into an emergency situation when Baby Beckham decided to enter the world 12 weeks early.
Beckham's parents became concerned when the hospital in Cancun started charging outrageous fees for things as simple as seeing their son and having paperwork and medical records completed. As the cost of services continued to rack up, family began reaching out to their local elected officials who, in turn, got them in contact with Representative Trey Hollingsworth's office early Wednesday (July 19th, 2017) morning.
"From the first moment that we were contacted about this situation, we began the process of interfacing with multiple federal agencies to ensure that every effort and consideration was being made to get the family home so that both mother and baby could receive necessary medical care," Representative Trey Hollingsworth said.
Representative Hollingsworth and staff remained in contact with federal agencies, Riley Hospital for Children, and the family throughout the day and night on Wednesday. Additionally, staff communicated with the family on Thursday to ensure that the State Department had issued proper paperwork that would allow the Ralph family to travel back into the country at an expedited pace.
"At the end of the day, Hoosiers are fighters, and Baby Beckham is no exception," Hollingsworth went on to say. "I am committed to fighting for Hoosiers, regardless of where the fight may be, because government and elected representatives should fight for and serve the people of this country."
Beckham and his parents arrived in Indianapolis Thursday (July 20th, 2017) evening. Prior to their arrival, Representative Hollingsworth spent time with the extended family while they waited at Riley Hospital for Children.
