REP. HOLLINGSWORTH CO-SPONSORS LEGISLATION STRIKING HEALTH CARE EXEMPTION FOR MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND THEIR STAFFS
The purpose of a citizen legislature is not to live by exception but rather by example
Washington, D.C. —Yesterday afternoon, Representative Trey Hollingsworth added his name as an Original Co-Sponsor of legislation that would prevent Members of Congress, and their staffs, from exempting themselves from any aspect of the American Health Care Act (AHCA).
“Constituents should never feel that the very people chosen to represent them are voting to give themselves privileged status,” Rep. Trey Hollingsworth said. “Our Founding Fathers envisioned a true citizen legislature that would operate in the best interest of the entire country and then return home to live under laws they helped create. I fully intend to, as my grandmother used to say, ‘eat my own cooking', which is why I did not hesitate to add my name to Rep. McSally’s timely and prudent legislation that would prevent Members of Congress from exempting themselves and their staffs from provisions of the American Health Care Act."
This legislation was introduced by Representative Martha McSally (AZ-02) and can be read here.
