Pacemakers, insulin pumps, and artificial joints. These lifesaving medical breakthroughs have changed the lives of people across the globe and have helped countless Hoosiers.Unfortunately, when the Affordable Care Act was signed into law, it created a medical device tax, placing a 2.3% tax on these devices, increasing healthcare costs for Americans and killing jobs right here in Indiana.
Today, the House of Representatives took action. We voted to permanently repeal this costly tax so you and your loved ones can access the care you need at an affordable price. I'm fighting every day to put patients in control of their healthcare and ensure our country's healthcare policies fit your specific needs, wants, and budget.
In addition to the Protect Medical Innovation Act, today the House passed legislation to increase access to Health Savings Accounts:
- Increasing Access to Lower Premium Plans and Expanding Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018 (H.R. 6311) - Expands the utility of tax-preferred health accounts to help more people plan and save for their healthcare needs.
- Restoring Access to Medication and Modernizing Health Savings Accounts Act of 2018 (H.R. 6199) - Modernizes Health Savings Accounts rules to allow for more to be covered or paid for with tax-advantaged HSA dollars.
Ensuring quality care is accessible and affordable for everyone is one of my top priorities as your representative, and I look forward to the relief these bills will bring Americans across the country.
Be of good cheer,
P.S. Earlier this year, I also voted to delay the Affordable Care Act's pricey health insurance tax that put an increased financial burden on families and small businesses.
